The who, what, where, when, and why of screens!

Confused about where to start when thinking about your little one and screens? Before we (Kay and Jennifer) became educational therapists, we both were teachers who taught writing. And when you tell a story, you need to tell the whole story. A good way to do that is by using the 5 Ws. You add the who, what, where, when, and why to see the bigger picture.

The screentime story is no different! Looking at all these questions can help you decide, as a parent, what is BEST for your little one and HOW you want to use screens in your home.

WHO is your little one watching the screen with? (With someone or alone?)

WHAT programming are they watching? (Is it just right or too stimulating?)

WHERE are they watching it? (In their room or the living room?)

WHEN are they watching it? (In the middle of the day or right before bed?)

WHY are they watching it? (As part of a routine or as a reward?)

The answers to these questions matter, particularly when it comes to building your little one’s creativity, focus, and ability to calm their emotions as they get older. We do a deep dive into all of these questions in our course, giving you all the easy take-aways. In the meantime, go download our free tech-wise guide!
